After Frederico gave me his
email address I knew the family name so with decent internet last night, I was
able to find out a bit more about them.
Danilo – only turns out he’s
one of the top US basketball players earning US$ 16m this year and US$ 58m to
date! I found this very amusing as we’d
chatted the other day about what he’d do when he could no longer play (he’s
already 28 and has had numerous operations) and he said if he could play on
until he was 35 he should be OK – no wonder at that earning rate. His career started with minor leagues in
Italy and he then was drafted in to play for Div 1 side Olimpio Milano. During the 2008 NBA Draft when US teams are
able to draft in the world’s top players he was the sixth player chosen and
went to play for New York Knicks.
As well as playing NBA for Denver Nuggets (since 2011) he still plays for the Italian
National side
Danilo has also modelled for Armani,
Adidas make his bespoke trainers (size 14) specially branded with his nickname
The Rooster (Gallo – his name is Gallinari) and he looks a lot like Cal from
BBC’s Casualty. But a delightful young
man, you wouldn’t guess in a million years he was so wealthy or I suppose
famous.
He’s also a keen golfer so it’s a shame Millie isn’t a few years older – he’d make a lovely grandson-in-law and they have the same birthday!
Of course basketball is in his blood, his Dad played for Olimpio Milano and is now a basketball agent and Freddie is in the process of getting his career in USA started.
