A Rant About KLM

One of KLM's boasts on their website is that you can log in 6 days before your flight and check various things including your meal.  This is of particularly importance to me being a fussy eater; if the meal is Beef. Pork or Lamb then I'd prefer a vegetarian option - however if that's pasta or eggy then maybe not.  

By Tuesday I still couldn't see the menu details so I contacted KLM via their Facebook page (their preferred method of contact) to double check where I should be looking on their site. It took 36 hours of messages back and forth and eventually I got this response


KLM - Please note that our meals vary per day and that we are therefore unable to inform you as to what specific meals will be served on your itinerary. While it is possible to request a special meal, e.g. if you're a vegetarian or have any religious restrictions, the menu itself remains unknown to us.

Me - Let me repeat the text quoted on your website again 

Live flight status details Your menu – served in Economy Class and in Business Class. Your aircraft – name, type and more The crew – facts & figures about cockpit and cabin crew. Curious? If your KLM flight departs within 6 days, log in now and find out.  

Your website tells me categorically I can see my menu 6 days before travel. If it is the case that the menu changes daily and is not known in advance WHY do you boast about the fact that I can find it and other info 6 days before the flight?  

I also sent them yet another screen dump.


KLM - Thank you for elaborating, it's now clear what you mean. We will investigate and get back to you as soon as possible.

Having heard nothing back by yesterday evening I chased them up

KLM -  Our team is still investigating the errors. As soon as we have an update, we will get back to you with the options. Thank you for your patience. 

Me - I leave for Quito via Amsterdam at 9am tomorrow and special meals need to be ordered 24 hours in advance!.

This morning at 09:30 I got the following

KLM - we have checked this for you. Unfortunately it is too close before departure for us to be able to inform you about the menu. We would like to thank you for your feedback.

If you operate an E-Commerce business it is imperative that a) what is on the site is correct and up-to-date and b) your staff know what is on said site.

I'd read reviews about how poor their Customer Services Dept is but this has rather annoyed me - hopefully I will have time at Schiphol to take the matter further!
